Upcoming elections will select a political system, a state and a nation
MP Boutros Harb said on Sunday that the upcoming parliamentary elections were not about electing individuals but about selecting a political system, a state and a nation. He called on all Lebanese to commit to the March 14 movement’s lists as a whole, rather than to specific names and only look out for Lebanon’s best interests.
“In March 14, we present you with a Lebanese state that we are proud of and which Future bloc leader MP Saad Hariri spoke about when he said: We agreed in the Taif Accord on a political system for Lebanon which says there should be an equal power balance between Muslims and Christians, regardless of whether the number of these two sects increases or decreases,” Harb said during a political rally in the Batroun district.
MP Harb said the March 14 alliance was trying to build a nation with a legitimate army to protect it and its borders. He said they were not building a state that had sub-states and armies that were not under the umbrella of the state. “March 14 is building a state with justice and a judicial system, where there is a voice for the Lebanese, not a nation which is run with force,” he added.
Harb said, “We differ with the others on their revolt on legitimacy. Those who are asking for all the Lebanese citizens to be armed are not aware that they are asking the Lebanese to kill each other.” He also stated that Israel and others who wanted no good for Lebanon would benefit the most from this request.
