Muraibeh Pulls Out of Election Race to Continue Cooperation with Hariri
Parliamentary candidate for the Sunni seat in Akkar Talal al-Muraibeh announced his withdrawal from the electoral race on Monday.
"I have known politics to be free of malice and grudges. However, sadly today politics in Lebanon has become sectarian and filled with tense speeches," Muraibeh said.
He added that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon is the only mechanism for disclosing the findings of the 2005 assassination crime of ex-premier Rafik Hariri and punish the assailants.
Muraibeh also reiterated his stance in supporting the Taef accord paying tribute to Saudi and Arab efforts that made it possible.
"[The accord] is a great achievement and it should be maintained and implemented, for political life in Lebanon cannot continue in this regard, there has to be a change to place the country on its natural future path," Muraibeh said.
He pledged to his supporters that he would continue practicing public causes and in full cooperation with al-Mustaqbal Movement leader MP Saad Hariri.
