March 14 Unity Above all Considerations
“Democratic Gathering” and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat has said that the unity of March 14 Forces is above all considerations for the sake of attaining the state that the Lebanese want.
In an interview with the weekly al-Anbaa magazine on Monday, Jumblat said he favored having a distinguished relationship with Syria without interference into the internal affairs of state. He also came in favor of establishing a the formula of equal power sharing in the state [between Muslims and Christians].
"As for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, this [body] is now above all political arguments and outside all local polarizations," Jumblat said.
He added that all political powers in Lebanon must respect its own current and future resolutions without any proportionality.
Jumblat went on to reaffirm the "bright historic stances" undertaken by Saudi Arabia in support of Lebanon and its people unexceptionally.
"Regarding the said video tape of [Youth and Culture Minister] Prince Talal Arsalan, it seems that local and regional parties that did not benefit from the inter-Druze reconciliation last May 11th worked on leaking this tape. However, [our] relationship with Arsalan remains well founded and unaffected by simple sayings here and there in anger and under tense conditions," Jumblat said.
He affirmed continued and positive cooperation with Arsalan is to continue "to protect the mountain and its people and to establish joint livelihood among all sects."
A media leaked video tape showed Arsalan describing Jumbalt "spear heading the American plan in the region" the tape showed Arsalan accusing al-Mustaqbal Movement leader Saad Hariri and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea of joining Jumblat in this endeavor.
