March 14 Provides Voters With a Choice: an Open Battle Field or Protection of Taef Accord
The March 14 secretariat-general said the Lebanese should either choose an open battlefield or the protection of the Constitution and the Taef accord.
In a press statement issued following the secretariat-general’s meeting on Wednesday, March 14 members urged Lebanese voters to defend the republic and the constitution as called for the Maronite Bishop’s meeting on the same day.
“Either you choose an open battle field and enter into constitutional adventures…change Lebanon’s democratic and independent face, or protect the constitution, the Taef accord, the partnership of all religious families and multiplicity of Lebanese society and its Arab commitments under a powerful unifying state,” statement said.
March 14 accused their political foes March 8 Forces of intentionally misguiding the populace through lies, rumors and fabrications.
The statement warned against the continuation of what it termed as “cheap methods” citing it has documented proof of such practices.
March 14 called on Interior Minister Ziad Baroud to conduct an immediate investigation concerning revelations of forged identity cards confiscated by the authorities in Baabda district. The identity cards were to be used in on election day on June 7.
The statement ended in paying tribute to assassinated journalist Samir Qassir [assassinated in 2005, and a March 14 member], and his pioneering role in helping launch the cedar revolution, a cause he died for.
