Mood in Kesrouan Changed since 2005

National Bloc leader Carlos Eddeh said Wednesday that the "mood" of voters in Kesrouan has changed in favor of March 14 since the 2005 elections.

"Many voters are expressing their desire to vote this time for the Kesrouan-al-Ftouh”s alliance list after they voted last time for MP Michel Aoun," Eddeh said in a statement.

Eddeh said Hizbullah”s "speech and adopted course" – supported by Aoun – were behind this "shift in the mood of voters in Kesrouna."

"The policy of Aoun and Hizbullah does not meet the aspirations of the people of Kesrouan," he said.

"This is why many voters are choosing the other option, especially after recent remarks by Iranian President (Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad," he added.

Last month, Ahmadinejad said the opposition”s victory in the Lebanese parliamentary elections will "strengthen the resistance and change the situation in the region."

Eddeh praised as "balanced" Wednesday”s statement by the Maronite Bishops, who urged the Lebanese to accept the elections” outcome graciously.

He said the Maronite Church and Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir "were not taking sides in politics. They are rising above all considerations and have top proposals that serve the country”s best interest."

Expressing concern over a March 8 victory, Eddeh said: "Hizbullah”s accession to power will place all state institutions under the influence of a party that follows the command of Iran."

"All fateful decisions in the country will be in the hand of wali al-faqih, whose orders are compulsory and executed by Hizbullah," he warned.

Eddeh remarked that Hizbullah promised Iranian military aid to the Lebanese army in case of a March 8 victory.

"As armament in Lebanon increases and as violent political speech escalates, the chances of a confrontation with Israel and new wars increase," he said.

He asked: "Why should the Lebanese always pay a high price and sacrifice their interests while the Syrian brothers enjoy a climate of calm on the Israeli-Syrian front?"

Eddeh said political opponents were the ones using "intimidation" by sparking fears of a "civil war in case of a March 14 victory because the other team will obstruct governance and use violence and threats."

"As we heard (Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan) Nasrallah saying that he hopes “no Lebanese will forget May 7 (2008),”" Eddeh said.

In a May 15 speech, Nasrallah sparked anger and controversy when he described the May 7 events as a "glorious day for preventing Lebanon from slipping into civil war."
