Sfeir Will Get an Answer Through Politics
Labor Minister Mohammed Fneish slammed Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir on Friday, saying the Cardinal would be confronted through politics.
"Since Sfeir is insisting on getting involved in politics and taking biased and accusatory stances, then he will be answered through politics," Fneish said.
A day before Sunday”s parliamentary elections, Sfeir said that the nation”s character and its Arab identity were under threat — an allusion to Iran, Hizbullah”s backer.
Sfeir also said Friday that the outcome of the polls has prevented a takeover by Iran and Syria.
Had the opposition won the parliamentary elections, "Syria and Iran would have taken control of our country," Sfeir said in remarks to al-Massira magazine.
Fneish said that the patriarch had ignored "the American-Israeli role" in his remarks or he was either ignorant or in conformity with such a role.
Sfeir "denied the role of the resistance in liberating the land and protecting Lebanon”s freedom and sovereignty," the minister added.
