Man Sentenced to 17 Months for Airing Hizbullah TV Shows in NYC
A man has been sentenced to more than a year in prison for helping Hizbullah by broadcasting its television programs in New York City.
Saleh Elahwal was sentenced Tuesday to a year and five months by Manhattan federal Judge Richard Berman. The Matawan, N.J., resident had pleaded guilty to providing material support to Hizbullah.
The sentencing came two months after the main defendant in the case Javed Iqbal, a Pakistani living in New York who owned the small satellite television company, received five years in prison.
After initially pleading innocent, Elahwal admitted accepting thousands of dollars to provide satellite transmission services to Hizbullah”s al-Manar station through New York-based HDTV between September 2005 and August 2006.
