Mentally Ill Lebanese Crosses Border into Israel
Israeli security forces arrested a schizophrenic Lebanese, who had infiltrated the heavily guarded border between the two countries, and returned him Wednesday night.
Yassine Abdel Latif Yassine, 35, was arrested at 1:30 pm not far from the border and taken for interrogation, an Israeli army spokeswoman said. A military source later said that the man was returned to Lebanon Wednesday night.
An Israeli security official said Yassine, who hails from Majdal Selm town, was unarmed at the time of his arrest.
A Lebanese security source told al-Akhbar newspaper that Yassine crossed the border from an area near al-Abbad base. He takes tranquilizers and was in a psychiatric hospital before his discharge a month ago.
Lebanese security services have arrested more than 70 people this year in a crackdown on espionage rings, and authorities in Beirut have said a number of suspected spies had crossed into Israel.
