Lebanese Forces bloc Calls for Forming “Harmonious and Effective” Cabinet
The Lebanese Forces (LF) bloc welcomed in a statement on Monday the efforts exerted by Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri to form a cabinet in which nearly all Lebanese parties are represented.
Following its weekly meeting in Maarab, the bloc called for forming a “harmonious cabinet which can effectively practice its role as an executive authority.”
LF MPs also said that the cabinet must not be “turned into a minimized parliament,” in reference to proposals to form the cabinet based on proportional representation of parliamentary blocs, or else “it will waste the chance of finding quick and proper solutions to the many problems which the Lebanese suffer from.”
The statement described the incidents which took place in the South in the past few days “dangerous and serious developments,” reiterating that “UNSCR 1701 constitutes the most important deterrent for any renewed aggressive Israeli intentions against Lebanon.”
While denouncing the recurrent Israeli violations of UNSCR 1701, LF statement said, “If UNIFIL has really violated its jurisdiction, and this we doubt, then such practices must be tackled via legal channels.”
“What clearly obstructs the formation of the cabinet is the oppositions’ demand of the veto power,” it added.
