Proportional Representation is Attempt to Infringe President’s Role
Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said in an interview on Future News TV on Sunday that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s insistence on proportional representation in the cabinet is an attempt to infringe on the role of President Michel Sleiman.
He also said that the opposition is trying to eliminate the results of the parliamentary elections by demanding the obstructing third vote. “Whatever cabinet formula is suggested, I do not believe President Sleiman will accept to have any consignee ministers within his share, nor will Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri grant the obstructing third vote,” Zahra said.
The structure of the Lebanese society does not allow anyone to have veto power over others, he said, adding that the majority is not asking for a two-thirds majority or for the opposition to excluded from the cabinet. “All we are asking is for it to participate without having the possibility to obstruct,” he said.
Zahra also said that Hezbollah’s arms are a burden on Lebanon and the Lebanese and that the relation with Syria should be between the two states, and not political parties.
