Murr after Wahhab Meeting: I Will Visit Syria When I See the Time is Right
MP Michel Murr said Tuesday, after talks with Tawheed Movement leader Wiam Wahhab, he will set up a date for a trip to Syria when he sees the time is right.
"At the right time, I will telephone the presidential palace in Syria and schedule an appointment," he said after the meeting at his office.
"I am not waiting for Sheikh Saad Hariri or Walid Jumblat to visit Damascus, nor am I waiting for a mediator or an invitation," Murr insisted.
"I have national convictions that have remained constant, even during hardships. I didn”t assault Syria in my statements," he added.
On the government, Murr said a formation must be achieved "within five days."
"All efforts are focused now on facilitating the premier-designate”s task in addition to the president”s support that will help resolve issues today or tomorrow to put an end to this whole matter," he added.
"There are contacts that will take place over the next 24 hours in addition to the Hariri-Jumblat meeting which will result in a solution or the beginning of a solution," Murr said.
Murr confirmed that his nominee for Cabinet was his son Minister Elias Murr, adding he would accept "any portfolio that President Michel Suleiman and MP Saad Hariri decide on."
For his part, Wahhab said he was "not acting as a mediator for Syria or conveying a message from MP Michel Aoun to Murr."
The visit, he said, was part of deliberations with Murr, who "maintains honest ties with all sides and a healthy relationship with Syria which he was able to preserve throughout the direst circumstances in the past and at present."
Wahhab said Tuesday”s visit was not a first, adding that previous meetings with Murr were not made public.
"I am not acting as a mediator between Murr and Aoun. The relationship between them is theirs alone and they know best how to resolve (their disagreements)," he added.
