Regional Powers Employ Aoun in Obstructing Cabinet Formation
Lebanese Forces bloc MP Antoine Zahra said in an interview published in Al-Balad newspaper on Sunday that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun is deliberately obstructing the cabinet in response to demands from certain regional powers.
He said that the LF is facilitating cabinet formation and are only requesting a service ministry. He denied that the LF was denied the public works ministry portfolio.
Zahra announced that the March 14 forces are reviewing the role of alliance’s general secretariat and are working on developing a clear structure and new effective role for the body.
He also said that the Maronite league is exerting efforts to arrange a meeting between LF leader Samir Geagea and Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Franjieh, adding that it would be “favorable” if such a meeting took place in the presence of the Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir.
