March 14 Slams Campaign Targeting Sfeir

March 14 secretariat general said Wednesday that no one can take away "the glory of Lebanon from its makers," in reaction to Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah”s criticism of Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir.

In a statement after its regular meeting, March 14 slammed "the organized campaign" targeting Sfeir, whose "stances represent protection for a sovereign, free and independent Lebanon."

It described the fact that religious authorities were taking part in this campaign as a "new chapter in targeting the foundations on which the Lebanese entity was established, specifically coexistence and unity."

March 14 warned that a "campaign being prepared against the Orthodox Church was beginning to appear in the media recently."

On another level, the secretariat general stressed that Lebanon”s security "can only be provided and imposed by the state."

"The military and security forces have all the right to deploy across the Lebanese territories at any time the state decides because that a sovereign right that we will not allow to be undermined," the statement said.

March 14 also condemned a campaign targeting the premier-designate.

"The campaign is a result of Saad Hariri”s adherence to the constitution and his constitutional privileges in forming a government in cooperation with the president," it said.

It said the more a government formation was delayed the more "Lebanon is exposed to regional disputes, especially in the face of repeated Israeli threats."

The statement added that "a political team continued attempts to obstruct the formation placed the country in a state of tension, especially in light of dangerous security indications."
