Geagea: Ferocious Battle for the International Tribunal

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Friday said a “ferocious battle” is underway in Lebanon over the international tribunal and the presidential election.

 

Geagea, talking to supporters at his residence in Meerab, said such a “ferocious battle is underway throughout the region. At the domestic level we have a battle for the international tribunal … that would start functioning in June.”

 

“We expect a charge sheet that would include names, which would clarify matters,” Geagea added.

“That is why Syria is exerting major efforts to block progress of the international tribunal by blocking Lebanese legitimacy,” he said.

 

Geagea said Syria “tried to strike a certain deal with a foreign force, but failed because states that back the international tribunal rejected the approach.”

 

“In addition to the international tribunal we have the presidential election. We still have little hope in the Arab initiative, if it fails, we would have substitute proposals to confront the other side,” Geagea added.
