Aoun: Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abulgheit should join March 14 majority

 

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun on Monday proposed adding Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abulgheit to the March 14 majority for having blamed the Hizbullah-led opposition for rejecting the Arab initiative.

 

He also attacked assigning the USS Cole to the Mediterranean saying “destroyers in general have supported chaos and they never supported stability.”

 

“Only peaceful solutions support stability, not destroyers,” Aoun told reporters after a meeting of his change and reform parliamentary bloc.

 

“We are used to such show of force. Several fleets came before and never achieved either stability or security,” Aoun added.

 

Referring to U.S. President George Bush”s administration, Aoun said: “It is time for them to understand that force does not make peace or stability. Europe … is more experienced, let them consult Europe it has a bigger experience.”

 

He said it would “be better for Lebanon to be absent” at the forthcoming Arab summit if a president was not elected, rather than being represented by Premier Fouad Saniora”s government or a joint cabinet-Parliament team.

 

Aoun also stressed that “we denounce what is happening in Gaza and we label it holocaust.”

 

He recalled that Israel has been fighting for over 60 years “and the problem hasn”t been solved.”

 

“I believe Israel should change the style and adopt a new approach that respects international law and humanitarian justice.”

 

“Any Jewish in the world feels safer than any other Jewish living in Israel … I hope they will consider this advise deeply … their problem is the relations with their surrounding,” Aoun told Israeli leaders.

 

Aoun also said there are no indications that war would break out.

 

“One destroyer, scores of destroyers do not make war. They can fire at a certain place but they do not make war,” Aoun insisted.
