France appoints new ambassador to Lebanon
French Ambassador to South Africa Denis Pietton was designated ambassador to Lebanon, to replace Andre Parant, whose mandate expired a few days ago.
Born in Paris in 1956, Pietton graduated from the Political Sciences Institute and from the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris. He speaks both English and Arabic. From 1992-94, Pietton was assigned to his first position in the United States as consul general in Miami. Upon returning to Paris, he was appointed deputy director in the foreign minister’s office in 1997.
He was then assigned as consul general in occupied Jerusalem from 1999-2002. In 2002, he returned to the US, where he held the position of minister counselor in the French Embassy in Washington.
