Suleiman Asks Spain for More Support to Lebanon

President Michel Suleiman expressed Lebanon”s gratitude for the Spanish efforts and the support Madrid offers Lebanon. Suleiman asked Spain for "more (support) in the face of challenges and dangers that are still threatening Lebanon".

In a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero after their meeting on Tuesday, Suleiman urged for taking serious initiatives during the next months, and in limited timeframes, in order to facilitate the comprehensive and just peace process in the Middle East.

Suleiman called for leaning on the resolutions of the international legitimacy, Madrid”s peace conference, and the Arab initiative for peace that prevents the settling of the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and preserves their natural right of returning to their land and home.

Zapatero, on his side, stressed his country”s continuous and permanent support for Lebanon in order to fortify its stability, security, and unity. He pointed out to Spain”s commitment to the peace process in the Middle East which cannot ignore the refugees issue, especially the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Previously, Suleiman said that Lebanon is still seeking and demanding that Israel withdraws from the occupied Kfarshoba Hills, Shebaa Farms, and the northern part of Ghajar village. The president also called for the necessity of halting the daily Israeli violations against Lebanese sovereignty and for the cessation of Israel”s extensive threats against Lebanon and its infrastructure.
