MP Alluch describes Rabieh consultations as “folkloric”

MP Mustafa Alluch of the Future bloc noted that little progress is being made in the past two days over Lebanon’s pending problems.

Alluch told the Voice of Lebanon radio station that an agreement over Friday’s presidential session has not yet been reached.

He also described the consultations at Rabieh, as “folkloric.” “These consultations might be an attempt to start popular movements similar to those of 1988-1998,” said Alluch.

During those years, massive rallies were held at the presidential palace at Baabda, described as the People’s Palace, when General Michel Aoun, who was named head of an interim government, declared a war of liberation against the Syrian occupation of Lebanon.

Alluch noted the influence of the Annapolis Conference on the situation in Lebanon. “The Syrian regime might need some assurance over the future course of the peace process before disengaging itself from Lebanon’s domestic affairs.”

“This is why the Annapolis Conference and the presidential elections in Lebanon are related,” he added.
