A Strong Army is Essential to a Strong State
Army chief Gen. Jean Qahwaji has described the army as the country”s backbone saying Lebanon is strong as a result of its military”s strength.
"The army”s mission is not restricted to preserving (peace) on the border. It has played an internal role in helping Internal Security Forces," Qahwaji told a dinner banquet thrown in his honor at Dubai”s Bourj al-Arab hotel.
"The army is the state”s backbone and is for all of Lebanon," Qahwaji stressed. "The state can only be strong, independent and proud by its army. No one could shake this force."
He insisted on avoiding discussion of politics "because politics divides and the army unites."
Qahwaji told invitees that his mission lies in defending the nation against Israel, preserving the army and fighting terrorism which he described as a "world trend."
