MP Chehayeb: Mouallem’s statement proves Syrian involvement in Hariri assassination

 

MP Akram Chehayeb said that Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mouallem’s claim that Syria was offered a deal regarding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon means that the party who allegedly proposed the deal was aware of Damascus’ involvement in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s assassination.

 

He added that Syria has been seeking compromises over the tribunal. “Some went even further by conditioning the solution in Lebanon to the following formula: The president for the tribunal,” Chehayeb said in a statement.

 

He also said that Mouallem, whether he knew it or not, said that the Arab and international communities are accusing Syria of Hariri’s assassination.

 

“It is obvious that after Mouallem’s statements, not only is the majority presuming Syria’s involvement, but most Arabs, too,” Chehayeb said.
