MP Houry responds to Berri’s accusation of violation of power

 

MP Ammar Houry responded to Speaker Nabih Berri’s accusation that Prime Minister Fouad Siniora had usurped power and disrupted institutions, saying “the real, tragic violation of power was when he (Berri) prevented members of parliament from gathering in parliament for 18 months.”

 

“Someone confiscated the parliament’s decisions, deactivated its role and advantages… and prevented it from electing the President of the Republic agreed upon by all Lebanese,” Houry said.

 

Houry remarked that the de facto Lebanese authority was the group which occupied the Beirut Central District, prevented Internal Security Forces from suppressing civil offenses, attacked public and private property and cut off roads.

 

Houry ended by saying the pro-government alliance wanted Berri to return to the position of House Speaker.
