MP Adwan: The 1960 electoral law does not serve Lebanese Christians
MP George Adwan of the Lebanese Forces said that the 1960 electoral law is not the perfect law to ensure the rights of Christians.
Adwan, in an interview with Egyptian Al-Ahram, noted the differences in the administrative and demographic situations in Lebanon since 1960.
“For instance, Marjayoun and Hasbaya are considered one caza under the 1960 electoral law. The situation is almost the same in Saida, Al-Zahrani, Baalbek and Hermel. How do we solve this matter?”
“Who can we call on for the implementation of the 1960 law while things have changed on all levels? And the worst thing is that some are describing this law as one that ensures the rights of Christians, while Christians must call for the smallest constituencies possible,” Adwan said.
