Ministry of Interior records 160 construction violations in southern suburb
The Ministry of Interior and Municipalities’ media relations office announced the register of 160 cases of resistance against the Internal Security Forces’ (ISF) attempts to implement laws on construction violations in Beirut’s southern suburb last year. The statement was issued in light of the recent political attention to construction irregularities in Dahyeh, the southern suburb.
“These cases recurred after an incident in the area of Al-Raml Al-Aali in 2006, when it seemed that there was an attempt to lure the ISF into fabricated clashes, which are in the interests of neither the homeland nor citizens,” the statement read.
The ministry underlined the need to “prevent random construction in the southern suburb in the interests of citizens.”
The statement also noted that the ISF would continue to record construction violations and divulge them to the relevant judicial authorities. “The construction irregularities in fact constitute a danger to residents in these buildings, as their random violations do not take into account public safety.”
The Ministry of Interior warned citizens who “resorted to such acts” against the consequences of violations. “We stress that the Internal Security Forces will continue to catch violations using all available means.”
