Geagea: No One is Permitted to Threaten the State

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said Hizbullah”s communications network aims at finishing off the state.
Geagea also said Hizbullah is pushing Lebanon into a "major impasse," saying it is not assigned by the Lebanese people to set the strategy for confronting Israel.

"No one is allowed to finish off the state", Geagea announced in an interview with the Central News Agency.

Geagea also attacked the General Federation of Labor Unions (GFLU) saying it does not represent the working class.

"The Ministry of labor, that sponsors the GFLU, has been presided over for nearly 15 years by ministers from the Baath Party, AMAL Movement and Hizbullah. Many unions have been formed by methods of cheating during this period, which resulted in electing the GFLU that does not represent workers," Geagea said.

The GFLU, according to Geagea, represents the Baath Party, AMAL, Hizbullah, The Syrian Social National Party (SSNP) and some other groups allied with Syria.

Geagea said the army, security forces and the judiciary would "protect citizens" if the GFLU strike on Wednesday went beyond legal limits.

He accused the Hizbullah-led opposition of "rejecting the presidential elections."

Geagea urged Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to "try support the presidential elections despite his sensitive status."

"The March 14 forces would throw their weight to achieve the election of a president on May 13," he pledged. “When we head to presidential elections by a simple-majority vote, we will be clear on the matter,” he said. Geagea said that the first persons he would consult on the half-plus-one formula were Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Butrous Sfeir and consensual candidate Army Commander General Michel Sleiman. “We do not think this option is an illegal option,” Geagea added.

Asked to comment on Hizbullah”s threat that no one is allowed to ban its weapons and communications network, Geagea said: "This is a serious and totally rejected stand … We all decide jointly on our national security issues, and it is not permitted for one party to impose its concept of national security."

"The state, state institutions and civic order are a red line," Geagea declared.
