MP Samir Franjieh: Aoun is difficult to understand and deal with
MP Samir Franjieh said that calling for a consensus president without specifying the nature of the consensus is wrong.
“Ever since Speaker Nabih Berri launched his initiative on August 31, we have been trapped in a vicious cycle,” Franjieh told the Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabass.
“The speaker is not a party within the authority; he is the guarantor of the constitution and a reference. If he abstains from playing this role, we will open the door for a foreign reference, be it Syria or America,” Franjieh noted.
He also said that the core of the present crisis is Lebanon’s relation to the regional crisis.
“Talk about neutrality in this regard could be a first step toward reaching a solution,” he added.
Franjieh described MP Michel Aoun as a person who is difficult to understand and deal with. “His statements bear signs of the Syrian era in Lebanon,” he announced.
He also said that Aoun’s initiative reflects the understanding he signed with Hezbollah.
Franjieh said it is not acceptable for the region to be ruled according to Iranian policy. “We are not blaming Iran, but the Iranian regional policy,” he added.
