Lebanese Forces adds May 7 to March 8 history

The Lebanese Forces information office said Wednesday, May 7 was “another black day added to the March 8 forces’ calendar, a date which undermines the foundations of the Lebanese state and civil peace in preparation for the return of Syrian occupation forces to Lebanon.”

The LF issued a statement saying that the opposition alliance had had quite a few events since March 8, 2005, the day they gathered in Beirut to express their thanks to “Syria’s persecution of the Lebanese.” The statement noted the unilateral decision to start a war in July, 2006 among the list of destructive events led by the opposition.

“May 7, 2008, will be another day the Lebanese remember with acute pain, when journalists were subjected to beatings and threats, public and private property were assaulted and roads were cut off,” including the road leading to Lebanon’s international airport, the statement added.

The Lebanese Forces expressed their “abhorrence” at the “cheap method of political work” the March 8 alliance practiced and appealed to “legitimate Lebanese military and security forces” to intervene and decisively suppress the “violations of the Lebanese state and its citizens.”
