اعلن مسؤول اميركي ان الولايات المتحدة نشرت في شرق البحر المتوسط سفينة نقل برمائية قادرة على حمل عدد من المروحيات ومئات من مشاة البحرية (مارينز)، لتضاف بذلك الى المدمرات الخمس المتمركزة لتوجيه ضربات محتملة ضد سوريا.
واشار المسؤول في وزارة الدفاع ان سفينة “يو اس اس سان انتونيو باتت في شرق المتوسط”، لافتا الى ان السفينة “لم تتلق مهمة محددة” من دون ان يحدد سبب نشرها.
وبخلاف المدمرات التي انتشرت سابقا، فان “سان انتونيو” غير مزودة صواريخ من طراز “توماهوك” ومجهزة فقط للدفاع عن نفسها.
في المقابل، تستطيع هذه السفينة ان تنقل حتى اربع مروحيات وهي مزودة منصة لعمليات انزال على متن زوارق خاصة، الامر الذي استبعده الرئيس باراك اوباما حين اكد ان العملية العسكرية ضد نظام بشار الاسد لن تشمل نشر قوات على الارض.
