History books speak volume of the atrocities and injustice done to the Christians of the Middle East and the Levant by early Islam, Shiites and Sunnis alike….
Christians were forbidden from building churches, or fixing existing ones, they were forced to pay a special tax called jizya, their lives were always an afterthought as they were slaughtered by each Muslim conquerer that came to replace the existing one.
I would like to think that nowadays it is different and that such radicalism is non existent. However, when i watch videos like that, or when i listen to Hizbullah’s leaders echo Irani sentiment about establishing “dawlat el faqih”, i get a reminder that such ignorance, barbarism and lack of justice still exist…
I reach out to all Christians and Muslims alike, to make a unified stand against this behaviour, to embrace our Lebanese identity, and cherish one another as citizens rather than members of a certain religion or sect…
