أكّدت مصادر 14 آذار لصحيفة “الأبناء” الكويتيّة ان فريق “8 آذار” يضغط على أعصاب البطريرك الماروني الكاردينال مار بشارة بطرس الراعي، بتخويفه من الانعكاسات السلبية للحكومة الحيادية، على استحقاق انتخاب رئيس الجمهورية في الربيع المقبل، ليحصل على حكومة وحدة وطنية، يملك مفتاح تعطيلها في أي وقت، مع الإصرار على عدم التطرق إلى التورط العسكري للحزب في سورية، والذي هو أصل العلة والسبب في هذه المرحلة الصعبة.
ولفتت الصحيفة إلى أن “رئيس “الحزب التقدمي الإشتراكي” النائب وليد جنبلاط يشكل محور الحراك الداعي إلى تجنب تشكيل الحكومة الحيادية، بالتناغم مع رئيس مجلس النواب نبيه بري الذي لا يستطيع، كما يبدو الابتعاد عن أجواء “حزب الله” مهما كانت التباعدات الذاتية”، مشيرةً إلى أنه “هكذا تفرملت عملية إعلان الحكومة المتفق عليها بين رئيس الجمهوريّة العماد ميشاا سليمان والرئيس المكلف تمام سلام، بنصائح من بري وجنبلاط، وبصوت مرتفع من البطريرك الراعي ومطارنته المقربين، الذين يتأثرون بواقع جغرافي مرتبط بمناخ حزبي وسياسي، يصفي أكثر، عادة، لطروحات بعض أطراف الثامن من آذار، والمتأثرين بنظرية “حماية الأقليات” التي تطرحها الأنظمة الاقلوية، حماية لذاتها”.

As a Lebanese Maronite, I have been extremely disappointed with our Patriarch El-Rai ever since he was elected to his current post. It has been a real let down. There has not been any one position that he has taken that I felt pride because of it. All the Patriarch’s statements have been either from weakness or from fear or from his believe which has not been aligned with the historical stands of all the previous Patriarchs. Dommage.

OK, but the Maronite leaders have never once all agreed on a single idea. But that has not let any of the previous Patriarchs from taking strong stands on critical issues.
Second, what do all his previous comments about Bashar Assad have anything to do with the Maronites being in disagreement?
Our Maronite Liturgy and Christian teachings have always taught us to pray to God for delivering us from evil (including dictatorships), not to praise them and insinuate they be given another chance to rule!!!
