The common understanding about the current situation in Lebanon clearly identifies the rivalry that exists between the Lebanese Forces Party on one side and Hizbulla on the other, in an attempt to change the status quo that is completely subjected to the will and the power of Hizbulla.
The leader of the Lebanese Forces Dr Samir Geagea treats Hizbulla as an equal, ignoring the latter being heavily armed. He refuses Hizbualla’s dismissal of the Lebanese entity, the historical, geographical and basis of its creation, the cultural and civil heritage that turned Lebanon into an ideal place for education, tourism, hospitalization, to the point that people from all around the world have chosen Lebanon as their destination. The credit for this beautiful image that Lebanon gained in this troubled area goes to the Lebanese Christians.
A segment of the Christian community believed that the Free Patriotic Movement has the ability to achieve a fair partnership, so they put their trust and hopes in this Party. After the failed outcome, reasons of which are not the subject of this article, this segment, among others, realized the error of believing empty promises that generated nothing but more losses to Christians role, rights, and “earnings” in the Lebanese community.
This segment also discovered the correctness of the path and the plan chosen by Geagea who has become the Christians’ only hope to re-establish their role in state’s decision making, thereby reclaiming their rights without provoking their Muslim Partner who is just as adamant about building a sovereign government after “Mar Mekhayel agreement” sent the Lebanese people on a path to “hell” and unified them in “collective death”.
The peaceful manner by which Geagea’s Christian faith and Party’s history succeeded in appealing to the Muslim Partner contributed to strengthening the belief that Lebanon’s well-being depends on the well-being of all the parties involved, and this could only be achieved through a government of integrity, justice and efficiency, a government from the people and for the people. It’s practically the reason why the Role of Christians in the decision making process was brought back through the “General Mobilization” that the Leader of the Lebanese Forces called for in order to prepare for the upcoming elections which will be fought to transform the belief stated above into a concrete fact after the majority of parliament is won. This path will not be a walk in the park, but it sure will be less painful than the fires of hell.
